The newest series - Everyday Sacred - explores how we add meaning and importance to objects in our life. How an objects worth is changed by how it is presented and kept. Each wrapped and woven piece starts with a discarded item - a toy, found object, piece of scrap wood or something meaningful to me.
The object is then wrapped with scrap rope, yarn, leather, cable, fabric etc until I am satisfied with the shape. Woven basketry elements may be added. The object, no longer visible, has almost been mummified or webbed over (like a spider) to keep “safe”. I explore these themes and meanings while creating aesthetically unique sculptures - hanging, floor or pedestal. They are bold and tactile and can be handled.
